Breakwater Works for Container Deepwater Port of Pakistan

The breakwater works for container deepwater port of Pakistans is located in Karachi, Pakistans, with its Owner being Karachi Port Trust, designer being Royal Haskoning of the Uk, and construction supervisors being Royal Haskoning and local Techno Consult International joint venture. Our institute independently designs and fully implements this works in the name of China HK, and this project is an oversea EPC project independently implemented by us.

This project is located in Indian Ocean Region where the wind and surge are both strong and the marine monsoon climate prevails, and the period of monsoon lasts from mid April to early October every year. The works includes the renovation of west external dike (1,100m), east dike (2,500m), west internal dike (285m), revetment (710m) and old dike (665m). The maximum water depth of head of breakwater is -18.0m.

The breakwater shall be in a slope structure, and the protective unit of armour shall be the Core-Loc blocks (Accropode modified type) that are widely used overseas. The blocks shall be installed with the globally most advanced Real-time three-dimensional visualization system installation system —PosiBloc which is developed by Mesuris Company, and the Core-Loc blocks and PosiBloc installation system are both the first application in our country. The introduction of Core-Loc blocks has reduced the amount of armour concrete by 3-5%, and the application of PosiBloc system can ensure the construction will be carried out according to foreign strict installation rules, and is easy for inspection and acceptance, so that not only the installation density is increased, but also the overall safety of breakwater is enhanced greatly.

Due to influence of late delivery of third-party foundation trench, the onsite construction of this project actually was put off for 9 months. Under the correct direction of the company’s leaders, the project team, based on own design advantages, positively creates construction conditions, and assists the consultant to solve the design problems in construction interface. Therefore, though the project progress was interfered due to delayed commencement, changed design and newly added items, yet this project had been still smoothly completed and delivered to the Owner on May 7, 2013, which is 7 months ahead of the completion time approved by the consultant. This is the first completed project of Karachi deepwater container harbour area, and has won the consistent praise from the consultant and the Owner. The maintenance period of this project will expire on May 7, 2014.

The longest journey starts with a single step. The successful implementation of this project has laid a good foundation for our institute to further develop the oversea EPC market.
